So, I think we all know I'm as fair as a person can be without being an albino. Seriously. That said, my chances of getting skin cancer at some point in my life are pretty high. Really high.
I've had a suspicious spot on my head for about a year, and haven't gone to get it checked out because I didn't want them to have to cut my hair at all...well, my hairdresser told my mom a couple of weeks ago that I really needed to go to the dermatologist. I'm so mature, right? She had to tell on me to my mom. After a biopsy last week, low and behold, it's skin cancer. So props to her for being on my case about it.
Anyway, Wednesday I will have surgery to hopefully remove all of it, and I will be left with a beautiful rather large (in my opinion) spot lacking any hair for a while. And a scar where hair will never grow again. Just a warning, I don't even have it yet, and I'm already self-conscious about it. If anyone has any really good ideas for covering it up for a while, please, please let me know. It's right on top of my head. A major side part might be in order, I don't know.
The moral of the story is this: wear sunscreen (which I do religiously), and hats (which I don't, but will now!), and if something looks suspicious, go to the dermatologist, even if you're super vain like me and don't want a scar.

Oh, yuck. I'm so sorry. Sigh.
If it makes you feel any better, I have my skin cancer scar on my leg. Oh yes, I have one too =) You and I can have organic sunscreen making parties! (Not sure if that exists...but if it does I would so do it!)
After all, lily white is the new tan!
Christie are you for serious?... Wow this is kinda scary huh? How are you feeling about it? Now i want someone to give me a head to toe check for skin oddities... what did yours look like? i know nothing about skin cancer... who is more at risk? i need to research... to be cliched- you've opened my eyes! Time to go to WebMD & Wikipedia... the two most truthful accredited resources on the web! (haha!)
Ok, you're sounding so very calm about all of this. Is it a front, or are you really calm about it all? Keep us posted, I pray the surgery goes well. Sorry I don't have any cool ways to cover up a bald spot, but I'm pretty sure once your hair grows back no one will even notice the scar.
That is so crazy...I will be praying for you on Wednesday for sure!
On the bright side, I have some ideas for the bald spot:
1. A sweet little tatoo...if you've got it, flaunt it!
2. Just think of it as a reverse ponytail.
3. A big bow could be nice...
In all seriousness, you will be in my prayers.
4. A bitch bump could work. (also know as the poof)
Friend!! This is so crazy. I think I am going to email you right now so we can talk about this more.
Wow! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this.
The peanut gallery in my household is recommending you go for a leopard look - I don't recommend it, but hey...it could work. ;)
This may make you feel a teeny tiny eensy weensy bit better...I had a major rush emergency mole removal right before we left on our BIG camping trip. It's in a pretty prominent place on my upper chest. I've had that mole my entire life and was used to seeing it. It wasn't big or anything - just there...anyway, one day it just randomly started bleeding & it bled through 2 shirts! I was scared - so I got it removed the day before I was going backpacking across the country. (Not really thinking about the chest strap on my backpack - duh!) And now, I have a scar where my mole used to be. It healed well & it's pretty small.
I'll definitely be praying for you & hoping your scar will be very minimal. I'm sure you'll be able to cover it up with your hair like other people have mentioned. I'm SOOOOOOOOO glad you got it checked out.
